Rollsigns from the U.S. Armed Forces United States, All Branches
|
This linen front rollsign was retrieved from a United States Air Force mid-1940s built ACF Brill C-44
#48B 142. Weathering had caused the linen to deteriorate and split into two sections. The upper
section was printed by Hunter Illuminated Car Sign Co., and has a stamped print date of March 4, 1948.
The lower section features all hand painted exposures which appear to be additions to the original sign.
The entire existing parts of the rollsign including the partial and torn readings total 19 exposures.
Retired U.S. Air Force mid-1940s built ACF Brill C-44 #48B 142, the bus these rollsign segments came from, is seen in a scrap yard in northwest Wisconsin on November 27, 2021.
