Rollsigns from Toronto, ON
1995 Mylar Bus Rollsigns
This front sign is off 1976 New Look #8109.
It has 30 exposures. The 96E destination of
"York Mills Stn" was a misprint. It should
have read "Wilson Stn", so a strip of sticky
vinyl was placed over the misprint. However,
on this sign it was mistakenly placed over
the "York Mills Stn" exposure on route 96D.
This special section groups the rollsigns that were printed for the TTC in 1995. The last series of buses to have rollsigns were the 1976 series GMC T6H-5307N New
Looks, numbered 8010 to 8117. Starting in 1992, the TTC closed their in-house rollsign printing shop, and began retrofitting all of their buses with electronic destination
signs, except the 1976 New Looks. By 1995, only about 20 of these buses remained in service. Due to the revocation of provincial funding, the TTC elected to keep these
remaining buses in service. With all the route changes that had occurred, the need arose to print new rollsigns. They contracted Multiscreen to manufacture them for the
garages that still operated these older buses: Arrow Road, Birchmount, Eglinton, Lansdowne, and Malvern Garages. The rollsigns printed did not have every route from
their respective garages, just the ones the older buses frequented. All the rollsigns had the print date of January 17, 1995.

In 1997, the TTC resumed purchasing new buses, and these older GMC buses began to retire. By 2001, the only remaining 1976 GMC New Look was bus #8058, running
out of Malvern Garage. In 2002, the TTC decided to retain this bus and give it a full rebuild and modern paint job, but instead of retrofitting this bus with an electronic sign
like the others, they kept its rollsign fixtures installed, allowing the chance for transit fans to still experience the era of rollsign use in Toronto. Finally however, in 2006, the
TTC did retire bus #8058 from service. Fortunately, though it did not go to scrap. It was picked up by the  Halton County Radial Railway Museum in Rockwood, Ontario.
After about ten years of being left as a display piece, The Toronto Transit Commission reclaimed bus #8058 on December 12, 2015, with plans to possibly restore it.

The set I have is the only complete set of these rollsigns. This Eglinton Division front sign was the only one printed, and there were no side signs printed.

All the sign's respective sign tags are shown below each image.

This set of front and side signs were received in "mint
condition", having never been installed in a bus. They
each have 30 exposures. The 96E destination of "York
Mills Stn" was a misprint. It should have read "Wilson Stn",
so a strip of sticky vinyl was placed over the misprint.
These signs have the correct placement of the vinyl strip.
Unofficially, all these Arrow Road signs are version "A-6".
