Center Area Transportation Authority began service on May 17, 1974. By 1979, service demand and ridership had increased, so the system added new routes and purchased additional buses from GMC. In 1996, CATA began a program to convert their fleet to environmentally friendly CNG buses. Their first order was for CNG buses from Orion Bus Industries. By 1997, an order of New Flyer CNG low floor buses would spell the end of the remaining GMC New Look diesel buses. The system still operates to this date with a fleet of alternative fuel vehicles. |
